Gluskap

Gluskap
Benign culture hero of the Algonkian Indians as opposed to his twin brother Maslum. In the Creation Legend of the Algonkians is told how after the death of their mother Gluskap formed the solar system and the human race out of her body, while his brother made things which would be hurtful to mankind. Gluskap, whose name means ‘the liar’, a title bestowed on him because he was more crafty than his brother, carried out many contests with him before finally defeating him. He also defeated powerful sorcerers known as Wimpe, Pamola, the Kewawkqu, and the Medecolin before going to the other world.
